Junior Ryan Ruberg and freshman Bailey O'Hare sparked Lewiston-Altura/Rushford-Peterson varsity cross country teams in last Thursday's Zumbrota-Mazeppa/Kenyon-Wanamingo Invitational Meet at the Zumbrota Golf Course.
Coach Matt Kingsbury's LARP charges are back in action today, playing the host role in the annual LARP Invitational at the Lewiston Country Club.
Ruberg finished eighth in 17:39.2 in the Z-M/K-W event. Teammate Hunter Herber was the next LARP runner in 43rd (19:09.4), followed by Jeremiah Munson, 51st (19:42.1); Trinity Derooy, 59th (20:15.5); and Shelby Hilke, 66th (20:34.0).
As a team, the LARP boys finished 10th in the 13-team field, scoring 227 points.
Waseca, which had five runners in the top 11 places, was the runaway winner with 26 points, beating runner-up Byron (71) and Kasson-Mantoville (72).
Waseca sophomore Shane Streich captured individual honors with a 15:34.9 clocking.
O'Hare's 28th place finish led the LARP girls to eighth place in the team standings. She was timed in 17:07.2.
Just four seconds behind was Mariah Olson, who took 31st in 17:11.2. Trailing were Erika Hinz, 47th in 18:15.7; Courtney Doerr, 49th (18:26.4); and Danielle Eberhard, 50th (18:27.0).
Cannon Falls junior Emi Trost won individual laurels with her 14:43.1 performance, but team honors went to Waseca (38) over Rochester Lourdes (44) and Stewartville (127).
In junior high action, LARP's Daryl Linder continued his torrid pace with a first-place finish in a field of 40 runners.
Linder, who also won at Pine Island, won his race in 12:09.6, comfortably in front of second place Jack Williams of Pine Island (12:23.4).
