Roger Wertanen of rural Peterson competed in the first Minnesota Senior Games held in Alexandria July 19-22.

A participant in the 70-74 age group, Wertanen garnered a second-place medal in the javelin and third-place medals in the discus and shot put.

By his performances, Wertanen earned the right to compete in the National Senior Games in Houston, Texas in 2011.

In the 5K cycling time trials, Wertanen finished in fifth place, and in the 10K cycling time trials, he came in fourth.
